Background

The Training Doctor, LLC is a custom instructional design firm, founded in 1991. We serve clients throughout the USA and abroad from offices in Connecticut and South Carolina.

We are rather unconventional, in a few ways:

First, we DON’T want our clients to be wedded to us! We will assist, enable, transfer knowledge and skills, and make your organization better (not ours). Our engagements last anywhere from a few weeks to a few years. You will begin to think of us as an extension of your staff; and we will act – responsibly – so. And when our work is through, we leave!

Secondly, we are a work-for-hire firm. The talent we bring to your organization is in designing workplace learning that works. We don’t require you to purchase licenses or sign intellectual property agreements, we don’t copyright your materials and we never, ever reuse them for another client. It’s your training program – you paid to have it designed, and it’s yours. Period.

Believe it or not, in many cases, our services are more economical to use than your own in-house providers. OK, maybe you already know that to be true; but we were shocked the first time a client told us that! PLUS, when you use our services, you don’t have to fight any other managers for our time. You won’t go into a queue only to be usurped by another manager’s poor planning that suddenly makes his project an emergency. And, when it comes to “little things” like last-minute edits or a custom-made visual you need for a presentation today – we’ve been known to turn things around in just a few hours.

Integrity

We’re very selective about the projects we take on. Why? We have a reputation to protect. Ninety-percent of the work we do is repeat and referral. We can’t afford to fail. If we feel that your need can’t be solved with training, or that there are more urgent things your organization needs to address first, before training can be effective – we’ll tell you. We’ll also bow out if your need for training is a topic that doesn’t excite us – because if we can’t get excited about it, there’s no way we can make it exciting for your learners. If we know of another consulting firm that would be better suited to your needs, we’ll refer you to them. Finally, if there’s an excellent program already out there that you can buy off-the-shelf, we’ll let you know that too.

Case in point:

The presenting problems were numerous customer complaints and CSRs that gave out erroneous information. We were called in to address a customer service problem and discovered a computer system that was so outdated and populated with such poor data, that there was no way those poor CSRs could give out correct information if they wanted to. And if we were in their shoes – dealing with that computer system – we’d be cranky by noontime each day too. It took us six months to shore up the technical side of the problem before we could even attempt to address the people side.
